Linear Gap Seal Installation Guide

Intuchem Intumescent Linear Gap Seal installation

The joint surfaces must be clean, dry and free from any debris and dust should be removed.

Check that the section size of the gap seal is correct for the gap width and fire rating required.

Ensure that the void into which the gap seal is to be installed is free from debris throughout the full length. Clear any obstructions within the void prior to commencing installation.

Compress the gap seal sufficiently to enable the section to be positioned within the void central to the thickness of the blockwork and remain in place supported be its own compression.

To ensure the integrity of the seal over its full length Intuchem Intumescent sealant can be applied to all butt joints between each 1 metre length of gap seal. The sealant can also be used on the edge to ensure the product does not move or fall away. Intuchem Intumescent sealant can also be applied to the exposed face of the joint if required.

Performance Information

Intuchem Linear Gap Seal is a flexible and compressible fire retardant foam strip which is factory coated with a heat reactive intumescent, and is designed to maintain the fire resistance of compartment walls and floors where designed movement / expansion joints are required.

At normal temperatures the linear gap seal remains flexible to permit thermal, mechanical and seismic movements between joints in a building structure. Gap widths up to 100mm wide can be accommodated and the seal is supplied in easy to handle lengths of 1 Metre.

The graphite intumescent is unaffected by atmospheric moisture making it suitable for use in areas of high humidity or moisture content.
